Fluid Mechanics Properties Part-3

In this post, we learn about surface tension and capillarity and problem associated with these concepts. So, let's start...

Surface Tension

Every liquid is having a strong property of minimizing its surface area up to its maximum extents, such a nice property of liquid is known as surface tension.
Basic Cause of surface tension is cohesion.

Capillarity

When a tube of very fine diameter is immersed in a liquid then there will be the rise or fall of the liquid level in the tube.
Depending upon the wetting or non-wetting nature of the liquid with the tube surface, the rise or fall of the liquid with the tube surface.
This rise or fall of the liquid level in a tube of fine diameter is a phenomenon known as capillarity and this tube of fine diameter is known as the capillary tube.
